NSW Little Athletics Championship Events

Little Athletics Association of NSW conduct several Championship events throughout each season.  State Records are accepted at all of the        following events, with the exception of the Zone Championships and the State Cross-Country & Road Walks.

State Relay Championships

The Little Athletics State relays is a relays event open to all Little Athletics Centres in New South Wales, and is the first and largest event on the LA’s competition Calender. Both track and field relays are contested on the day, and all registered club members from Under 8 to Under 15 are eligible to nominate for a place in the Cherrybrook LA’s Team. Selection will be based on performance, however athletes may only compete in either track or fields events, and athletes competing in the middle distance relay cannot compete in any other event. Four athletes are selected per relay event, so there is plenty of opportunity for athletes to be selected and participate.

The State relays are held in November at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, with the U8 to U11’s competing on the Saturday and the U12 to U15’s competing on the Sunday. If your child is interested in representing Cherrybrook at the NSW Little Athletics State Relays, please complete a State Relay nomination form and return it to your age manager or to the State relay tub (in the club room on the results table). If your child is selected in the Cherrybrook Team, they will receive a selection letter via their age manager on Friday 9th November. A team selection list and Program will also be posted up at the oval and on the web site as soon as they become available. For enquiries please contact Nicky Jenneke (Championships Officer) Ph:9651 6565 or email mjellybeans@bigpond.com.

Zone Championships

Zone Championships are conducted in each of the 24 Zones throughout the State. Cherrybrook Little Athletics competes in the North Metropolitan Zone, the largest Zone in the State. This Season our zone will be contested in December at Dunbar Park, Marsfield and Barton Park, Nth Parramatta.  Athletes in the age groups U7 to U15 are eligible to compete at this event. Athletes can compete in a maximum of 4 individual events. For athletes U7-U12 only four athletes per event are selected to represent the club, selection in the team is based on performance and participation. Every effort is made to allow as many athletes as possible in each age to compete at zone and all athletes are encouraged to enter a nomination for selection.  Athletes in the U13-U15 age groups have open entry (no selection process), but are still restricted to a maximum of 4 events.  A Junior and Senior relay team are also selected for both boys and girls. The junior relays are made up of one U9,10,11 and 12’s. The senior relays are made up of one athlete from U12,13,14 and 15’s.

Selection of the zone representative team (including relays) is made by the championships officer in conjunction with the committee and age managers. Nomination forms for selection in the Cherrybrook zone representative team will be available to print off from this website in mid October. Nomination for a place in the zone team implies that the athlete will be available for both regional and state if so selected. Team selections will be advertised on the website and on the club noticeboard.

NB   No athlete (no matter how good) will be automatically entered into the zone until a signed nomination form has been received.

The first three place getters in Under 7 receive medals but do not progress past zone. The first three place getters in U8-U15 qualify to represent the club at Regional.

Certificates are issued to all top eight place getters. For more information please contact the clubs championships officer Nicky Jenneke on 9651 6565 or mjellybeans@bigpond.com
