The main focus at Cherrybrook Athletics is improving the
athlete's own individual performance. In Little Athletics, this is encouraged
by a Coloured Patch Award system. Athletes are awarded coloured
patches, based on achieving certain levels of performance in a number of the
athletic disciplines, covering both track and field events. There are five
categories, - the easiest to achieve is the Yellow, with each level after (
Green, Red, Blue and Gold) progressively harder to achieve. Athletes who
qualify for the Gold award or meet Gold level performances in particular events
are generally State equivalent athletes.
At Cherrybrook, Awards are also
given on presentation night to the Most Consistent athlete
in each age group, as well as the Most Improved, based
on a designated points system. By attending as many competition nights and going
in as many events as possible, athletes give themselves the best opportunity to
win these Awards. Awards are also presented to athletes who compete at Regional
and State level, as well as those who attained club records in individual events
during that season. Trophies are also awarded to the best Senior Athletes in the
Under 20 categories, and also to the best Open and Masters Athletes.

The most prestigious club
award is the T. J. Beale Perpetual Trophy*,
which is given to a girl and boy who best epitomize the philosophy of
Little Athletics. The criteria for this Award consists of an attendance
of 70%, a positive attitude and a willingness to embrace good
sportsmanship. Each year the Committee will determine a particular age
group that the award winners will come from in that season.
*
When Cherrybrook Athletics commenced
in 1994, the Club was financially strong in that initial season due to a
generous contribution from Mr T. J. Beale, the grandfather of our first coach
James Fitzgerald. The committee that year decided it was important to recognise
this, and the T. J. Beale Perpetual Trophy was born. Mr Beale passed away during
the 1998/1999 season.
