Relay Team leads Cherrybrook med

Relay Team leads Cherrybrook medal haul at State Little Athletics Championships.

The last event run over the two day State Little Athletics Championships held on 15-16 March 2008 at the Sydney Olympic Centre is the Senior Boys Relay. The Cherrybrook team of Ben Jaworski, Jonathon Palmer, Anthony Palmer and Marcus Venables stormed home to take the Gold medal in a fast 48.85s. It was a very exciting way to finish with lots of cheering from the Cherrybrook supporters as Ben Jaworski stormed to the lead after the final change.

Their performance capped off an excellent Championships for The Cherrybrook Club with 16 medals being won and a total of 38 top 8 finishes. The club had a record 39 athletes qualify to compete at State after the Regional Championships held on 16-17^th February.

All our athletes put in 100% in their events with heaps of P.B’s being broken over the weekend. Thanks once again to Nicky Jenneke and her right and left hand woman, Michelle for organising the club’s reserved place in the grandstand and for your general organisation of the Club’s participation at State. Thanks to all the parents who did duties and supported the athlete’s so enthusiastically. Thanks to all the athletes for your efforts over the 2 days and for supporting your other team mates in their events. Wherever you came you are all champions. Go Cherrybrook!!!

There were a number of outstanding individual performances. Leading the way was Amy Pejkovic who smashed the existing U15 Girls State and National High Jump Records with a leap of 1.80m. Amy jumped superbly reports Sharpe, not having any misses until a second time clearance at 1.80m. She backed up with Silver in the Long Jump 5.48m and Silver in the Triple Jump 11.52m.

Also outstanding was Main Vidler U11B taking double Gold in the middle distance events with P.Bs of 2.21m in the 800m and 4.52m in the 1500m. Other multiple medallists were Hannah Menday U15G Gold 3000min 10.35m, Silver 800m in 2.22m and Bronze 1500m in 4.54m. Ben Jaworski U14B backed up his Relay medal with a Silver 200m in a very fast 23.24s and Bronze in the 100m in 11.71s

Also taking home individual medals were Jenny Blundell U14G with an emphatic Gold in the 800m in 2.15s. Lara Newey U10G with a massive 9cm Pb took Silver in the High jump in 1.38m. Michelle Jenneke U15G took Bronze in the 90m hurdles in 13.36s as did Jin Su Jung in the U14B Long Jump with a leap of 5.59m and Erin Blundell U12G in the 800m with a time of 2.29m.
